Mothers for water treatment

Until a year ago, the Jagaruk Mahila Bikash Samuha, a 49-member group of mothers living in the old Newari settlement of Chhusika Tole, one kilometre-east of Patan Durbar Square, had to postpone their monthly meetings by a week because a majority of their active members could not attend as their family members were suffering from one kind of water-borne disease or another.

Health facilities sans drugs

With a view to increase people’s access to health services, the government had introduced Free Essential Health Care Services (FEHCS) nearly three years ago. But, a Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) study has revealed that 85 percent of health institutions providing free health services have been without stock of essential medicine. Read more…

Nepal, finally declares the elimination of leprosy

Bir hospital is sick due to politicisation

The two-week-long deadlock at Bir Hospital ended on Friday after the agitating doctors reached agreements with the Ministry of Health (MoH). The patients awaiting treatment at the country’s oldest hospital heaved a sigh of relief. Umbrella body to confer academic accreditation

The National Planning Commission (NPC) and the Ministry of Education (MoE) have prepared a draft umbrella act, which provides for setting up an independent body to clear confusions–mainly between the education and the health ministries–over awarding accreditation and certificate of equivalence to medical students graduating from different universities.
